Hellfire Kennel is situated on a large scenic ranch in south- western Montana with challenging varying terrains that include wide open high prairie meadows, rolling foothills with canyons and coulies, and an established douglas fir forest. At 6000 feet in elevation, our backyard wildlife is abundant and includes everything from bountiful herds of elk, antelope and mule deer, cottontail rabbits and snow shoe hares, to hungarian partridge and two species of mountain grouse.
Although we'd like to say we spend all year hunting our dogs on the wide variety of WILD game that Montana has to offer, the sad reality is that hunting season only lasts a few short months a year and rather than be bored and birdless couch potatoes when it ends <gasp>, our dogs enjoy training for and running in AKC field and hunting events.
We are a field performance breeder and in addition to the countless hours we spend with our dogs, we put almost as much time, research and thought planning our breedings. Our breeding philosophy has always and will always center around strong, talented, well bred bitches paired with field champion and national field champion titled sires. We linebreed on great dogs, outcrossing when necessary while always seeking genetic soundness through health test screening.
very fortunate as the gun dogs we enjoy shooting over have also produced some very talented field trial dogs including FC AFC CFC Hellfire's Fast Track MH MX AXJ CD VS (the 2005 National Open Gun's Award Winner) and many hunt test competitors, agility, obedience and even youth 4-H participants. Through our puppies new kennels have blossomed, many titles have been earned, and perhaps the most rewarding aspect is watching our first timer "newbie" handlers get excited about field performance sports.
